How To Unclog A Showerhead

A clogged showerhead is typically caused by minerals in your water. There are several products on the market that can help to clean a clogged showerhead. For a more economical and green approach you can simply use white vinegar to clean the showerhead. Pour vinegar into a plastic baggie and tape or rubber band the baggy to the showerhead so that the head is dipped into the vinegar. Leave it for several hours or overnight and your shower head should function much better.

Another option is to wrap the showerhead with a cloth or tape and use adjustable pliers to unscrew it. If the shower arm twists when you are trying to unscrew the showerhead then wrap the arm in tape or cloth and use another set of pliers to turn in the opposite direction so that you can unscrew the showerhead. Remove and take apart the showerhead remembering where all of the parts go so that you will be able to reassemble it. If the parts are worn they will probably need to be replaced. Soak the showerhead parts overnight in vinegar to help remove any mineral deposits and clogs. You can also scrub the showerhead with an old toothbrush to remove any built on debris.

If these methods of cleaning the showerhead don’t work then you will probably need to replace it altogether.
